Jason Gibbins

Jason Gibbins is a life-long Chelsea fan, Chelsea Pitch Owner, member of the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust, and former Fans’ Forum representative.

A journalist, he once rejected an offer to become the editor of the Chelsea matchday programme… a ‘grown-up’ decision made due to the disappointing financial package on offer, but a decision that is still likely to reduce him to tears if you ask him about it.

The son of a Chelsea fan who first visited Stamford Bridge in December 1954 when Red Banner of Hungary were the opposition, Jason was taken to his first game on New Year’s Day 1980 at the age of six.

That 3-3 Division Two promotion clash at Luton Town saw a capacity crowd crammed into Kenilworth Road and was chaotic enough to leave him well prepared for the good, the bad and the ugly that has come with a lifetime commitment to following the Chels.

Jason has seen Chelsea in action across the UK and Europe, at grounds as diverse as a park pitch in Caernarfon for a 1986 pre-season friendly to the near 100,000-capacity Nou Camp in Barcelona.

He was also there in person for most of the big firsts of his generation… the FA Cup win of ’97, the European Cup Winners’ Cup win of ’98, and confirmation of the Premier League title at Bolton in ’05… but he wasn’t there for the European Cup win of 2012.

On that occasion he was committed to a charity climb of a Moroccan mountain a few days before the game and couldn’t get to Munich in the same week. He’ll probably be reduced to tears if you ask him about that, too…

Across the years Jason has followed Chelsea home and away with his dad, brother, and the finest collection of mates one could wish for.

Today, as the generation game rolls on, he continues to attend as many games as life and finances allow primarily in the company of his two sons and niece.

Jason’s first book ‘For Better Or Worse: Life, Love and Supporting Chelsea in the 1990s’ was released in the spring of 2022, ahead of the 25th anniversary of Chelsea’s 1997 FA Cup success.
