Al Gregg

Don’t worry, Al Gregg wasn’t as moody as he looked in this photo which was snapped on the set of the film Confessions of a Hitman in which he portrayed DCS Frank Cater – Al was in fact one of the nicest blokes you could ever have met.

Starting out as a punk musician, as a teenager, Al played guitar and sang in various bands including Three Minute Warning, Four Minds Crack and The Wall, the latter whom he reenergised in the post-COVID era. A trained actor, Al appeared in many popular TV shows including Eastenders, Casualty, The Bill, Soldier Soldier and Lovejoy. Film credits included, The Real American, Joe McCarthy, Dr Easy and This Damnation.

Born in West Brompton in 1963, Al was a lifelong Chelsea supporter and season ticket holder and his love of the Blues and punk rock provided the inspiration for his novel The Wrong Outfit which was critically acclaimed by Vital Football as “Excellent. It just has to be read. It’s epic, exhilarating, spellbinding and a remarkable read”. Praise indeed, and well-justified. The Wrong Outfit saw Al really nail down what it was like to be a teenager growing up during the 1970’s a time of great social change that was as exciting as it was terrifying.

Tragically, Al died in May 2026, his passing mourned deeply by all who knew him. He was a diamond of a man; husband, father, friend and a genuine creative talent who will always be remembered.
